The Kenya Society in London is targeting improved relations with the United Kingdom even if the UK exits the European Union. Kenya Society has often been the bridge linking business to Government and is an integral part of smoothing relations between Kenya and the UK. Patrick Orr, the Chairperson, intimated that Kenya Society is part of Kenya’s extended family that takes huge pride in her accomplishments, and was positioning itself to continue on this path post-Brexit.
Orr spoke at the annual Kenya Society reception hosted by the High Commissioner in September. Every one of two cups of tea drank in the UK is from Kenya and many conversations in UK households are over cups of tea or coffee from Kenya. Orr urged Kenya Society members to increase efforts to ensure trade opportunities are increased to ensure more Kenyan products are consumed in the UK.
High Commissioner Manoah Esipisu reported that Kenya is stable and peaceful and working on the unity project. The economy is also on a firm upward trajectory as gains are being seen in tourism, manufacturing, agriculture and service delivery. The Government has been fighting corruption with high level cases before independent courts. Mr. Orr and Amb. Esipisu also spoke highly of Kenya's candidature for the United Nations Security Council non-permanent member seat. "Kenya deserves to be there and there is no better representative on the Security Council than Kenya speaking for Africa."
