Kenya is mounting a strong campaign as it seeks to be re-elected to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under Category “C”. Category C comprises countries that have special interests in maritime transport or navigation.
The Mission has planned a series of campaign events in London to drum up support for its bid in the build up to the Election Day set for 29th November, 2019. Kenya's re-election is part of a broader campaign to ensure the representation of all major geographic areas of the world in the decision making process of the global agency.
As a specialized agency of the United Nations, IMO is the global standard-setting authority for the safety, security and environmental performance of international shipping. Its main role is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted and universally implemented.
