The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MoEP), Charles Keter visited London from 20th -24th March 2017. He was accompanied by Eng. Isaac Kiva, Director of Renewable Energy at the Ministry; Eng. Peter Mugai, General Manager, Business Strategy, Kenya Power & Lighting Corporation; Dr. John Mutua, Manager, Research Policy Analysis and Planning, Energy Regulatory Commission; Elizabeth Njenga, Capital Planning and PPP Manager; Pamela Mutua, Communications and Public Relations Adviser; and Jacqueline Rono the Personal Assistant to the Cabinet Secretary.
The objective of the visit was to benchmark from the UKs expertise in maximizing renewable energy assets while meeting the need of affordable energy building on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in May 2016 to deepen cooperation between the UK and Kenya on renewable energy. The delegation also explored modalities of combining energy resources (Wind, hydro, solar, anaerobic digestion (AD) and geothermal) to support one another and how to reduce the risks of grid instability and intermittency.
The delegation visited, the Agrivert Anaerobic Digestion Facility in Surrey, the Cowdown Solar Farm in Hampshire, the UK National Grid Center and the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OfGEM) in London. They were accompanied by the High Commissioner H.E Lazarus Amayo and the Commercial Counsellor, Mrs. Anne Kamau.
