On Friday 26th May 2017, SACOMA Global led by the CEO Mrs. Perez Ochieng, and the Director Mr. Sam Ochieng, launched its premium sweet potatoes products in London. The event was graced by the Kenya High Commissioner to the UK H.E Lazarus Amayo; Malawi High Commissioner to the UK H.E Kena Mphonda; Zambia High Commissioner to the UK H.E. Muyeba Chikonde; Dr. Laura Mann, Assistant Professor, International Development Depart at the London School of Economics and Political Science; Kenyan Diaspora and friends of Kenya. The new product Sweet Potato Creme Brulee is the latest addition to the many value-added products that are manufacture by SACOMA including chips, crisps, and pickles among others.
The Directors of SACOMA highlighted the achievements of SACOMA to date and their desire to expand in order to improve the living standards of Africans through farming and value addition. They called for support in promoting their unique products as well as the activities of the Company both in Africa and in the United Kingdom.
Speakers at the launch lauded the work by SACOMA noting that it is an excellent example of a Diaspora led company that has contributed to the economic development of Kenya in terms of value addition and employment creation. They expressed confidence that the SACOMA initiative will go a long way in improving living standards in Africa by creating ample jobs and increasing returns from farming.
The High Commissioner of Kenya to the UK Mr. Lazarus Amayo thanked SACOMA for the worthy initiative and the support it has given to the farmers in Kenya’s Kericho and Kisumu Counties that has enabled them to produce sweet potatoes for international market. He reiterated that the high impact output and training by the company has enabled farmers in Kenya produce high-quality products and that sweet potato farming is no longer considered the poor man’s food.
Ambassador Amayo emphasized that the Manufacturing sector in Kenya is among the priority sectors identified by the Government to catalyze Kenya’s leap to a higher middle-income economy as outlined in the Vision 2030. He noted that SACOMA initiative will go a long way in complementing the Government’s efforts in achieving the vision. He thanked the Kenyan diaspora present and friends of Kenya for their continued support of diaspora led initiatives and assured them of the support of the Government of Kenya in advancing their interests in the United Kingdom.

The company aims at promoting exportation and access to Market for Kenya and African unique agriculture process into UK/EU and other international markets, Catalysing Entrepreneurship in Rural Communities; and in particular has led the innovation and entry of the Kenya sweet potatoes commercialisation into new markets, adding value and using agriculture innovation and entrepreneurship to respond to skills challenges and technology needs for African smaller holder farmers.
