The Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, Hon. Henry Rotich visited London from 19th -21st June 2017. The objective of the visit was to meet with key British investors to exchange views on the current micro-economic situation in Kenya and the projections for the next three years.
While in London, the Cabinet Secretary visited the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) and held a meeting with Mr. Nikhil Rathi, the Chief Executive Officer LSE plc and Director of International Development. The Meeting was also attended by the H.E. Lazarus Amayo, Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mr. Ibukun Adebayo, Co- Head Emerging Markets, Mr. Adam Scheuer, Manager, International Governments Relations, Mr. Nimal Nandwani, International Markets Associate, Mr Chris Kirigua, Executive Director & Regional Head of Public Sector, Standard Chartered Bank, Kenya and Mrs. Anne Kamau, the Commercial Counsellor at the High Commission.
During the Meeting, Mr. Nikhil Rathi explained that the London Stock Exchange Group is a diversified international market infrastructure and capital markets business. He noted that the Group operates a broad range of international equity, bond and derivatives markets and is also home to one of the world’s leading growth markets for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Mr. Rathi further noted that through its platforms, the Group offers international business and investors access to Europe’s capital markets.
Hon. Henry Rotich noted that it was in Kenya’s interest to manage foreign currency risks and expand its pool of investors. The Cabinet Secretary and the Chief Executive Officer agreed to work together in enhancing Kenya’s participation in the International Financial Market.
