On 14th June 2017, the High Commissioner H.E. Lazarus Amayo officiated the opening of the Second Annual ICPAK UK Chapter Seminar which was held at the Holiday Inn, Regents Park, London. The Objective of the Seminar which was attended by Kenyans in the accountancy and audit profession working in the UK and members of ICPAK was to promote standards of professional competence and practice amongst ICPAK members and to enhance the international recognition of the Institute.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Tom Nyagare, the Chief Manager, Members Services, ICPAK, congratulated FCPA Julius Mwatu on his appointment as the Chairman of the Institute for a period of two years. He noted that the theme of the Seminar was “Visionary leadership for organizational success” with the main focus of the discussions being finance and leadership.
The High Commissioner while delivering the opening remarks at the Seminar emphasized that Kenya and the United Kingdom continue to enjoy excellent economic relations with the UK being Kenya’s leading trading partner. He further noted that the Government was keen to make Kenya the Financial hub in the sub-region given that trade in services accounts for over 50% of the country’s GDP. He commended ICPAK noting that it is the only institution with a University in Kenya. The High Commissioner assured the ICPAK Members present that the High Commission will work closely with the Institute in promoting its interests in the UK.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by the Commercial Counsellor, Mrs. Anne Kamau and the Financial Attache Mr. Kennedy Bosire.
