On 29th July 2017, Kenyan Diaspora in the UK attended Kenya in the Park, a multinational cultural celebration that brought together Kenyans and their friends from different nations to celebrate Kenyan culture. The event organized by Ms. Lydia Olet and Ms. Mercy Kiminta was held at the Plaistow Park in London and was attended by people from Kenya, the United Kingdom, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, among other nations. The event was graced by Mr. Washington Oloo, Director, Diaspora Affairs Division at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Grace Cerere, Ag. Deputy Head of Mission at the High Commission, Mrs. Nelly Amayo, wife to the High Commissioner of Kenya to the United Kingdom, Cllr Elizabeth Kangethe, among others.
It featured cultural dances and live performances, several stalls displaying Kenya’s traditional attire, jewelry, paintings & carvings, as well as different products from the sponsors. There was also an array of mouth-watering Kenyan and African cuisine, and children fun games, making it an ideal family event. Several businesses were on hand to market their products in the areas of finance, hotel industry, real estate development, mobile telephone service, legal aid and other products.
